T+U vol. VIII. Palæhauntology, 2024
Digital print, 15x21 cm, ed. of 150 copies, printed in Budapest

The 8th issue of T+U titled Palæhauntology explores the profound intersections between archaeology, philosophy, and speculative futures. By integrating the ancestral or prehuman deep time with Derrida’s concept of hauntology, which combines the ideas of haunting and ontology, it emphasizes the necessity of confronting the spectral remnants of our cultural and biological pasts that haunt the present and extend into our posthuman futures. Bones serve as our core metaphor, embodying the tangible remains of ancient life and the philosophical questions of existence. Hegel’s assertion that ’spirit is a bone’ grounds our exploration, suggesting that the material and the metaphysical are deeply intertwined. These relics bridge the chasm between what once was and what may come, prompting us to reflect on mortality and continuity.
